The mind is the most erotic part of the human body. It is also a wonderful playground to escape to contemplate the deeper meaning of the day’s experiences or the works of artists that touch your spirit. This is about all of those thoughts that so occupy your mind that they cause you to tune out everything that is going on around you. Like toys for the mind you can’t seem to put them down. After posting on other blogs for many years I finally found the inspiration to start my own.

Deep Inside of You

When we met, light was shed
Thoughts free flow
You said you've got something
Deep inside of you

One of the most amazing parts of meeting someone new is that precious feeling of opening yourself up to them. Each of us is a unique menagerie of hopes, fears, and dreams. Some aspects seem to be an inherent part of our being while others have been crafted by the joys and challenges we have faced along our journey. Most people in our lives only see the façade and never truly see the inner workings. They know what we are but never truly see who we are.

There’s a vulnerability in being truly naked and letting another person see the fabric of our soul. In the wrong hands it can expose weaknesses that others can use as power against us. We have all experienced that to some degree and a few have been so damaged that they can’t bear the risk of exposing themselves again. Trust is such an essential element. When a woman offers that first glimpse into her soul it leaves me with the most precious feeling that I have started to earn her trust.

Despite the risks, truly sharing yourself with another is one of the most beautiful parts of the human experience. There are few things in life more precious than finding that magical connection with someone that truly “gets you”. Someone that understands the things that have caused you pain and compassionately accepts them as part of you. Someone that’s sees your fears and offers just the right amount of support and encouragement to overcome them. Someone that thrives on your hopes and dreams and relentlessly strives to make them a reality. Someone that wants you to see yourself through their eyes which highlight all of the special qualities that make you so incredibly special.

That moment when I feel her begin to share herself with me is every bit as breathtaking as a first kiss. The exhilaration of sharing each other’s most innermost thoughts can make time stand still for longer than the most passionate of kisses. The joy in her eyes as she feels your smile embrace and caress her hopes and dreams can make you melt inside. And if you are ever so fortunate to hear her whisper the precious words “I want you inside me” you’ll be overwhelmed by the magic as the look in her eyes tells you you are already there.

Anyone that gets to know me finds out very quickly that I am very sentimental. I have a box in my desk where I keep cards, letters and trinkets that have a special meaning to me. And now in the electronic age, there is a special folder on my computer where I keep my new age treasures. Occasionally, something will come to mind that sends me browsing through that box or that folder and today was one of those days. And as I stumbled upon on old e-mail from a wonderful woman I met here many years ago it reminded me of the simple lyrics from the Bee Gees song “Words" which goes.

It's only words, and words are all
I have to take your heart away.

I am constantly amazed by the power of words. That power has a dark side and I detest those that misuse the power of words and leave permanent scars as they use them to attack, hurt and abuse people they supposedly love. But that power has the potential for great beauty as well and when they are crafted from the heart with the deft skill of a wordsmith they can open doors to incredible new opportunities or perfectly capture the gift of sharing ones most heartfelt emotions.

The beauty of gift wrapping your feelings in the pretty paper of the written word is that the gift can be reopened again and again. The emotions are permanently preserved as they cling to each word waiting to touch your heart each time it’s opened.

And so it was as I opened this beautiful message from a very special woman that was part of my life many years ago. We had dated for a couple months and following a spectacular night together she sent me an e-mail with the most beautifully written message telling me all of the qualities that made me truly amazing in her eyes. We have been apart for years yet as I read each one, my thoughts were filled with the sweetest memories of the wonderful times we shared.

Words like passionate and tenderness are so apparent in the moment that they never needed to be spoken but by capturing them in the written word she preciously preserved those feelings for all time. Perhaps the greatest compliment I received was captured in her words; that were “You make me laugh and giggle and remind me of just how much fun being a in an adult’s world can be”. What a beautiful reminder of the amazing chemistry we shared. In her e-mail she described me as trustworthy, supportive, kind and generous and those words reinforced my hope that being a true gentleman is often one of the greatest ways to show a woman how much you respect and value her in your life.

Even though the Brothers Gibb described them as “only words”, the mere fact that they can “take your heart away” is an affirmation of their immense power. While the magic of a kiss, the tenderness of a warm embrace or a soulful look deep into your partner’s eyes can share feelings that words could never hope to describe, never forget the enduring power of words or look past the opportunity to capture them for all time.

The Magic of a Smile

I’m addicted to smiles. I’m not talking about a pleasant grin, I’m talking about the kind of smile that touches you all of the way to the core and lasts for days. The kind of smile that creates a sense of warmth as it pervades every fiber of your being. Too many of us wait to find those smiles but I choose the much more rewarding path of creating them.

The easiest is a simple act of kindness, I love the way it feels to help a friend or a stranger. It can be as simple as words of support or lending an empathetic ear. In my professional life I do a lot of pro bono work for people that can’t afford my services and the occasional tears of appreciation have touched me very deeply.

One of my favorite sources of smiles is watching as my words of encouragement inspire a friend to spread their wings and reach higher. Sometimes that means changing the way they see themselves. Sometimes it means getting past the damage others have created. There is nothing more heartwarming than seeing someone special realize their dreams.

And then there is that very special feeling of having a magical friend in your life that creates a smile every time they cross your mind. The lyrics of Smile by Uncle Kracker capture the magic of that special smile perfectly.

You're better then the best
I'm lucky just to linger in your light
Cooler then the flip side of my pillow, that's right
Completely unaware
Nothing can compare to where you send me,
Lets me know that it's ok, yeah it's ok
And the moments where my good times start to fade

You make me smile like the sun
Fall out of bed, sing like a bird
Dizzy in my head, spin like a record
Crazy on a Sunday night
You make me dance like a fool
Forget how to breathe
Shine like gold, buzz like a bee
Just the thought of you can drive me wild
Ohh, you make me smile

The wonderful thing about having such a special friend is that you never have to look for opportunities to create smiles. You always have someone you can’t wait to touch with an act of kindness or remind just how special they truly are. You are always there to offer a caring nudge to get them back on track if they lose sight of their dreams. And you can be a source of reliable strength when the dark side of life encroaches.

And then there is one more smile, a very precious smile you cannot create on your own. I haven’t experienced this smile for a while but the times I have are permanently etched in my memory. I’m speaking of the very precious smile that lingers for days after an amazing night of passion. It is wonderful amalgamation of the closeness of your connection and the sheer joy of creating so much pleasure. It is that special smile that others can see even when your face lacks expression. For me, the greatest reward from sex isn't the most intense orgasm or checking another fantasy of my list, its creating this smile.

I’ll close with a question, “what makes your smile?”

Carry on

A couple months ago I downloaded the album some nights by fun and found myself captivated by the entire album. A website review indicated that the album had some very dark passages and yet was incredibly uplifting and I was totally drawn to that contrast. I actually loved the whole album but I was particularly drawn to the message in the song “carry on”.

It goes:

If you're lost and alone
Or you're sinking like a stone
Carry on
May your past be the sound
Of your feet upon the ground
Carry on

My head is on fire
But my legs are fine
Cause after all they are mine
Lay your clothes down on the floor
Close the door
Hold the phone
Show me how
No one's ever gonna stop us now

Cause we are
We are shining stars
We are invincible
We are who we are
On our darkest day
When we're miles away
So we'll come
We will find our way home

It is a simple message to just keep moving and don’t be a prisoner of your past. The line “May your past be the sound of your feet upon the ground” really resonates with me. I and people close to me have too often been unable to free themselves from things in their past. That passage is a great reminder that your past is always behind you as long as you’re moving forward.

The passage “My head is on fire, but my legs are fine, cause after all they are mine” is such a simple metaphor but it is a reminder that so many of the things that hold us back exist only in this very small space between our ears. People or circumstances from our past may dominate our thoughts and feelings but they don’t own our ability to move forward.

I have only included a portion of the lyrics but the songs starts with two people lost in despair and builds as they draw strength in each other to move forward.

I am a genuinely positive person but it is not because I have not faced challenges or have overcome difficulties. But I have found my greatest joy in supporting and inspiring others. It isn’t always helping them through difficult situations; at times it is only letting them know you see more in them than they see in themselves. Sometimes all it takes to be a shining star is to have someone that find in you, the things that make you sparkle.

Slow Hand

I had a wonderful friend who very beautifully told me that there was something special in my touch. I was naturally curious but it was hard for her to put into words. It was a combination of tenderness and passion, a choreography with body and lips, an intuition that magically knew just where and how she loved to be touched.

As a of the seventies before cable television I struggled to learn about the art of passion from so many different sources. Mom’s Cosmos were easier to find than Dad’s Playboys and, in hindsight, provided much better education for an aspiring lover. It probably sounds very cheesy but music also included subtle hints about the art of pleasure. To a young man eager to learn everything he could about pleasing a woman, the Pointer Sisters song “Slow Hand” provided a musical insight into how a woman longed to be touched.

I want a man with a slow hand
I want a lover with an easy touch
I want somebody who will spend some time
Not come and go in a heated rush
I want somebody who will understand
When it comes to love I want a slow hand

I have no idea what women see in men but to touch a woman, to feel the warm soft suppleness of her skin against the tips of my fingers is like heaven. Sensing her body's reactions to my hands as they wander in search of those special places where my touch will totally drive her wild. Ultimate pleasure isn’t as about where she’s touched but more when she’s touched and how she’s touched.

If I want it all night, please say it's alright
It's not a fast move but a slow groove
On my mind

I’m in no way discounting those very special times when frenzied passion just happens but I truly love the times where you get lost in a slow simmer that carries you away for hours.

We are drifting free, like two lost leaves
On the crazy wind of the night

The beauty of getting lost in someone special. How do you like to be touched?

The Pleasure of Pleasing

I’m listening to the Bridge on XM radio and an old Carly Simon song is being played. The song reminded me of just how much I missed the pure joy of pleasing a woman.

Nobody does it better
Makes me feel sad for the rest
Nobody does it half as good as you
Baby, you're the best

I have always been uncomfortable with compliments, I think to some extent that is a man thing. However, when those compliments center around my skill as a lover, when they are shared in the afterglow of hours of intense pleasure, they can be one of the greatest gifts a man can receive.

The way that you hold me
Whenever you hold me
There's some kind of magic inside you
That keeps me from runnin'
But just keep it comin'
How'd you learn to do the things you do?

Reaching stratospheric levels of pleasure requires a very special chemistry between two people. Tenderness creates a sense of comfort, a canvas on which passion can vibrantly come to life. Great sex is often a menagerie of little things that build upon each other. A skilled lover is an artist that reads the canvas of her body and selects the perfect combination from his palate of knowledge of the things that bring her pleasure. Majestically gliding the brush across the canvas and seeing the image come to life in the form of clenched sheets, a racing heart and a longing in her eyes.

There are many questions and polls on this site about what men and woman enjoy the most about sex and they center on different activities. But nothing will ever compare to the sweet sound of lover’s voice saying “you were amazing”. Having those words totally confirmed by the beautiful sense of exhaustion and satisfaction as you nestle in each other’s arms after hours of being lost in a sea of passion. A lingering sense of passion that leaves her trembling with cravings of anticipation of getting lost in you again.

I miss those moments and the look of amazement in her eyes when she’s just experienced pleasure in a way she never has before and she says those precious sweet words “Baby you’re the best”.

All alone at the end of the evening
And the bright lights have faded to blue
I was thinking 'bout a woman
Who might have loved me, and I never knew

I should be perfectly content with the quietness of another evening alone. Instead my mind is thirsting for the splendor of great conversation, my body longing for the warmth of an affectionate touch, my lips aching for the tenderness of a sweet kiss. I try to distract myself with mindless activities hoping to obscure the feelings of emptiness but the gravity of my longings makes it impossible to keep my mind from wandering.

Why am I such a wallflower? I have met some really amazing women here, shared some unbelievable experiences and created some wonderfully cherished memories. Times shared that were so precious that they left a constant longing for more. Every time I log on I see so many beautiful smiles online, I get that giddy feeling when someone interesting has viewed my profile or used that silly flirt button for the electronic glance across the room. Why don’t I reach out? As a I used to be afraid of rejection but with age I have become far less sensitive to striking out. No, as I search my heart I find I’m actually more afraid of connection.

There are two lyrics in the song that haunt me.

You can spend all your time making money
You can spend all your love making time

It reminds me that as wonderfully special as those relationships were, my business responsibilities always seemed to interfere with the time I had available. I found myself torn over balancing priorities. I remember how much it hurt to create disappointment. I’ll be the first to admit my life needs more balance.

Still, I can’t help but feel that anytime I see a pretty smile, read every word of an interesting profile or find myself totally captivated by an insightful blog that I am missing an opportunity to share something really special. At times, I just immerse myself in the “what ifs” as I recall those wonderful relationships from my past and dream of what they may have become if I had more to give. At other times, I let my imagination run wild when I sense the possibility of a special chemistry as I immerse myself in a compelling profile or blog. Like so many, that distant, silent, admirer who loves to dream but will never know.

Thinking About You

The sweet warmth of fading sunshine penetrating the chill of a late summer’s evening brings back some wonderfully warm memories. For one reason or another, the waning days of summer have been the magical time of year when someone new and wonderful enters my life for the first time.

I know my role is often as an oasis to replenish the soul, to help someone see their true self and find the beauty in strength within for the next leg of life’s journey. Investing yourself in someone very special is tremendously rewarding but, just as there must be balance in the universe, a great sense of reward is often balanced by a sense of loss.

There is an innate sadness when you realize that a chapter of your life you wrote with someone very special is now complete. And yet when something as simple as a song or a cool autumn breeze summons the cherished engraved memories of that chapter, the sadness fades into a beautiful sense of warmth and comfort. I despise the term “letting go” because I want the memories that are filled with joy and beauty to be enduring.

“Thinking About You” by Norah Jones beautifully captures those slightly painful but oh so sweet and comforting feelings that accompany the treasured memories of someone special that has chosen a different path.

Yesterday I saw the sun shinin',
And the leaves were fallin' down softly,
My cold hands needed a warm, warm touch,
And I was thinkin' about you.

Here I am lookin' for signs of leaving,
You hold my hand, but do you really need me?
I guess it's time for me to let you go,
And I've been thinkin' about you,
I've been thinkin' about you.

When you sail across the ocean waters,
And you reach the other side safely,
Could you smile a little smile for me?
'cause I'll be thinkin' about you,

A very special friend recently told me that I should really spend less time cherishing old memories and more time creating new ones. It is hard not to agree but on a crazy afternoon when life seems to be getting the best of me, it such a treasure to find refuge in the sweet comfort of treasured memories.

My older teenage was riding with me as we traveled to an appointment out of town and we were listening to the radio. It was the nationally syndicated morning radio show with Robert and Thomas. As part of their odd lot of news stories they discussed a recent study that found that the length of your index finger in comparison to your ring finger was directly correlated to your penis size. The study found that if your index finger is shorter than your ring finger you are likely to have a larger penis. While continuing to drive safely, I naturally did what I am sure most of their red blooded male listeners did and held my hand up to check it out. My immediately exclaims “REALLY, I can’t believe you just did that”. Not wanting to creep him out I just sat there smiling at the fact my index finger was noticeably shorter. However on the inside, the Transylvanian accented voice of Terry Garr from Young Frankenstein was excitedly proclaiming.. “It’s twwooooo, It’s twwooooo” .

Never Just an Ordinary Girl

One of the wonderful elements of music is the way it echoes your own feelings and experiences. Many, many years ago at age 14 I have a huge crush on an 18 year girl I was assigned to train during a summer job. Unfortunately, she didn’t seem to be attracted to 5 foot, 2 inch, peach fuzzed faced boys but nonetheless I adored being around her. She was totally unlike any of the girls in my class. She was very down to earth, very smart and had a wonderful quirky sense of humor. She was quite attractive but seemed to go to great lengths to conceal it. I was terribly shy and uncomfortable talking to girls at that point in life and yet with her, it was totally different.

Many years later I found the song Hard Candy by the Counting Crows uncovered lingering remnants of my crush from many years past. It goes,

On certain Sundays in November
When the weather bothers me
I empty drawers of other summer's
Where my shadows used to be
She is standing by the water
As her smile begins to curl
In this or any other summer
She is something altogether different
Never just an ordinary girl.

It was one of those songs that, when I closed my eyes, it took me back to a certain place. I could vividly see her standing in her navy blue one piece at the swimming hole where the whole gang went after work to cool down. She was glaring at me with a half wry smile, half scowl for trying to push her in. But there was a look in her eyes, one I probably didn’t fully understand at 14 and may not yet. It is one of those visual images that will last a life time.

As I examined it more, it occurred to me how that early crush had formed my perceptions of the qualities I still find attractive in women later in life. I adore women with a little quirkiness in their sense of humor. If you’ll pardon the term, I think brainy girls are totally hot. I treasure a woman with an aura of playfulness and a lighthearted approach to life. In a world where we are gender groomed to be a certain way and where we are constantly evaluated by ourselves and others against those impossible standards, it is a wonderful breath of fresh air to find someone totally comfortable being “altogether different”.

I am so privileged that my horizons have been so expanded by personally investing in women I find interesting. Exploring the things that make them extraordinary such as reading books by their favorite authors, exploring poetry they have quoted, and listening to new types of music. But more than that it just being around them and sharing as they find a deeper beauty or deeper meaning I may have otherwise missed, or finding the humor that is only apparent through their slightly skewed prism of the world. The things that make you different make you extraordinary.

One my favorite songs on the cool down portion of my workout mix is "Need You Now" by Lady Antebellum. The lyrics beautifully describe the intense sense of longing that accompanies the memories of someone very special from your recent past that fills your mind in the empty hours of night. Fighting that temptation to reach out and touch some of the passion that is missing and putting aside whatever circumstances have pushed you apart. I feel blessed that from the few relationships I have had over the years that all of my memories are wonderful and luckily they often "cross my mind"".

The lyric in the song that always strikes me deeply is the bridge "guess I'd rather hurt than feel nothing at all". In the context of the song, I'm never quite sure if it is the memories that are causing hurt or the acceptance of the risk of reliving the pain of whatever has pushed them apart to experience the passion they shared one more time.

The fear of hurt serves as a form of personal confinement. All things that are full of joy and passion come with a risk of hurt and the greater the reward, the greater the potential cost. Buffering your heart by building trust and managing your expectations can cushion the blow but never offer full protection. The only real protection is to exist in the shelter of "feeling nothing at all". We all manifest that existence in different ways burying ourselves in work, immersing ourselves in books or media, but at "quarter after one" without those distractions the memories of how wonderful truly living feels creep in.

I would much rather hurt than feel nothing at all because the hurt will fade away and whatever joy created it will endure. I need to get better at living by that mantra. Are you limited by fear of hurt?

Anticipation

Today’s date brought back a very special memory of a first meeting. Still as real as the day it happened are the memories of this overwhelming feeling of anticipation that is captured in the Carly Simon song of the name, a snippet of which is:

And I tell you how easy it feels to be with you
And how right your arms feel around me
But I, I rehearsed those lines just late last night
When I was thinkin' about how right tonight might be

Anticipation, anticipation
Is makin' me late
Is keepin' me waitin'

What a powerful and amazing role anticipation can play in life but especially when it involves the pleasures of the flesh. That light headed surreal feeling which accompanies a mind completely lost in thoughts of what tonight might be. A quickening heartbeat and other physical signs of arousal that appear even though you are miles apart. Concentration becomes difficult as your mind is already where your body longs to be.

Anticipation can be an amazing form of foreplay when it is shared. Informal communications or gestures that capture your excitement days in advance that grow in frequency and intensity as the hour you will meet approaches. Is there a more intoxicating form of arousal than knowing that your partner is overwhelmed constantly by just the thought of holding you, sharing you, becoming part of you.

And on those nights where you both know where the night might will lead after the dinner and the dancing, the anticipation can be electrifying as it accompanies every smile, every casual touch, the warmth flowing from body to body. Many years ago at a restaurant bar waiting for our table, my partner excused herself for a few minutes. While she was gone, the bartender leaned towards me and said the he had waited his whole life to have a woman look at him the way my companion looked at me. He was kind enough at my request to share that with her when she returned.

How amazing when in a room full of people, you can totally get lost in the the anticipation which accompanies every adoring gaze, the nervous energy that slightly alters your speech, the subconscious impulse that has you constantly stirring your drink. Fueled further by the energy of a playful touch, a wink, a discrete exposure, or a softly whispered desire.

Perhaps the greatest form of anticipation is as an act of pleasure. A blogger on another site, in describing a kiss said so beautifully that she felt the warmth and tenderness of his kiss long before their lips ever touched. Arousal is our body’s natural reaction in anticipation of a touch, a kiss or the joys of penetration. A master of the art of pleasure knows how to use that anticipation to create the optimal level of arousal. Too slow can be a torturous tease, too fast is a lost opportunity to push the envelope, but when you read her body just right, a moment of anticipation can create a tidal wave of pleasure.

Letting the warmth of your breath flow down her neck just before kissing her tenderly behind the ear. Fingers that tenderly explore every inch of her body before giving into the gravity of your desire to touch her in the most precious places. The deep eye contact as your body hovers just above her waiting for the look in her eyes to beg you to take her now.

Anticipation will leave her longing to be in your arms, sensing your kiss before your lips meet, quivering at the first touch and over flowing with the precious juices of passion. Here's to keeping her waitin', at least just a little.
